Introduction
Safeguard Technologies Ltd is committed to promoting the safety, wellbeing and dignity of all individuals who use our services.
We recognise that some customers may be elderly, vulnerable, living alone, experiencing cognitive decline, or otherwise at increased risk of harm, neglect or exploitation.
While Safeguard Technologies is not a regulated care provider, we acknowledge our responsibility to act appropriately where safeguarding or welfare concerns are identified in connection with our services.
This policy sets out our approach to safeguarding and the steps we may take where concerns arise.
Purpose of This Policy
The purpose of this policy is to:

We recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
Understanding Safeguarding
Safeguarding refers to protecting a person’s right to live safely, free from abuse, neglect, exploitation or harm.
Safeguarding concerns may include, but are not limited to:

emotional or psychological abuse

neglect

financial abuse

coercion or exploitation

self-neglect
-
unsafe living conditions

concerns relating to confusion, vulnerability or wellbeing
Recognising Concerns
Safeguard Technologies staff or representatives may occasionally become aware of concerns during:

device installation
-
support visits
-
customer communications
-
emergency contact interactions
-
monitoring escalations
-
general service delivery
Possible indicators may include:
-
signs of distress or confusion
-
repeated welfare concerns
-
evidence of neglect
-
unexplained injuries
-
unsafe living environments
-
concerning behaviour from third parties
-
repeated unanswered welfare alerts
-
significant deterioration in wellbeing
Staff are not expected to investigate safeguarding concerns independently but are expected to act responsibly and report concerns appropriately.
Responding to Safeguarding Concerns
Where a safeguarding or welfare concern is identified, Safeguard Technologies may:

record the concern appropriately
-
escalate internally where necessary
-
contact a nominated emergency contact
-
contact a healthcare professional or support organisation where appropriate
-
contact emergency services where immediate risk is identified
-
make a safeguarding referral to the relevant local authority where reasonably necessary
Where there is an immediate risk to life or safety, emergency services should always be contacted via 999.
Information Sharing
Safeguard Technologies recognises that safeguarding may require appropriate information sharing in order to protect welfare or safety.
Information will only be shared where:

there is a genuine safeguarding or welfare concern
-
sharing is considered necessary and proportionate
-
there is a lawful basis to do so
-
disclosure is appropriate to protect an individual or others from harm
Information may be shared with:

emergency contacts
-
healthcare professionals
-
monitoring providers
-
safeguarding authorities
-
emergency services
-
law enforcement agencies where legally required
All information sharing will be handled responsibly and in accordance with UK data protection legislation.
Professional Boundaries
Safeguard Technologies staff and representatives are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times.
This includes:

behaving respectfully and professionally

avoiding inappropriate personal involvement

maintaining confidentiality
-
not accepting inappropriate gifts or financial involvement

not exploiting relationships with vulnerable individuals
DBS & Safer Working
Where appropriate to the nature of the role, Safeguard Technologies may seek Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks for individuals involved in customer-facing activities.
Safeguard Technologies also aims to promote safer working through:

Training & Awareness
Safeguard Technologies recognises the importance of safeguarding awareness.
We aim to ensure that individuals acting on behalf of the business understand:

the importance of confidentiality and respectful communication
Confidentiality
Safeguarding concerns will be handled sensitively and confidentially.
Information will only be shared with those who reasonably need access in order to protect welfare or safety or fulfil legal responsibilities.
Review of This Policy
This policy will be reviewed periodically and updated where appropriate to reflect operational, legal or regulatory developments.
